Where I Grew Up:

I grew up on the outskirts of Omaha, Nebraska. We lived in a small town, but my parents always told me that I was going to do big things and go far. When I got to college, they were right. I studied biology and chemistry and graduated with honors from the University of Iowa. After graduation, I decided to pursue a career as a urologist and moved back home to Omaha because my hometown is beautiful. The people there are so friendly, it’s easy to make friends when you move into town.

My Love Affair With Chicago:

Chicago is my home now, but Omaha will always be a special place for me. Omaha was where I spent the first 18 years of my life, where I had all of my family and friends, went to school and learned all about myself. My love affair with Chicago began when I moved here to attend medical school at the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC). Chicago has been nothing short of an amazing adventure. I have been able to see some great places while still being able to take care of my patients here. As a urologist, I am happy to say that Chicago has been a great home base for me!

How I Became A Urologist?

Dr. Billmeyer became interested in urology after his father was diagnosed with bladder cancer and he became increasingly aware of how rare it was for a physician to be able to treat their own family. He finished his undergraduate degree and attended medical school at the University of Iowa, where he majored in biology with a minor in chemistry. After graduating from medical school, he completed a residency at the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston, followed by two years as chief resident. In 2001, Dr. Billmeyer joined UT Southwestern Medical School’s faculty as an Assistant Professor of Surgery and director of urologic oncology research.
