What inspired you to pursue a career in health care?
I have always been interested in health care and helping others. When I was growing up, my mom was a nurse and my dad was a doctor. I saw the difference that they were able to make in people’s lives and I wanted to do something similar.
What are your goals for Dignity Health?
My goal is to make Dignity Health the best health care system in the country. I want us to be known for our excellence in patient care, our commitment to diversity and inclusion, and our focus on social justice.
What are some of the challenges you face in your work?
One of the biggest challenges is the fact that our health care system is so complex. There are so many different stakeholders involved, from patients and families to doctors and insurers. It can be difficult to make changes that will benefit everyone.
Another challenge is the fact that we are constantly evolving. Technology is changing so rapidly and health care is changing with it. We have to be able to keep up with the latest trends and make sure that our systems are able to meet the needs of our patients.
What are some of the things you are doing to make Dignity Health better for all?
We are focused on improving the patient experience. We want to make sure that our patients have a great experience every time they interact with us. We are also working to expand access to care. We want to make sure that everyone has the care they need, when they need it.
We are also working to make Dignity Health more diverse and inclusive.

Dr. Behazin sat down with us to discuss her work, the challenges of health care equity, and how Dignity Health is working to improve health care for all.
Dr. Behazin has a passion for health equity, which she defines as “the fair and just distribution of resources and opportunities to people.” She believes that everyone deserves access to quality health care, regardless of their background or income level.
One of the challenges of health equity is that it can be difficult to measure. “We often look at health outcomes, but those don’t always tell the whole story,” Dr. Behazin explains. “For example, we might see that a certain group of people has higher rates of diabetes, but we don’t know if that’s because they have less access to quality care or if there are other factors at play.”
To truly measure health equity, Dr. Behazin says, we need to look at a variety of factors, including access to care, quality of care, and social determinants of health. “We need to look at the whole picture to see where disparities exist and what we can do to close those gaps,” she says.
Dignity Health is committed to improving health care for all, and Dr. Behazin is leading the charge. “We’re working to increase access to care, improve the quality of care, and address social determinants of health,” she says. “We’re also working to increase diversity and inclusion within our own organization so that we can be more responsive to the needs of our communities.”
Dr. Behazin says that there’s still a lot of work to be done, but she’s optimistic about the future. “I think we’re making progress,” she says. “There’s a lot of interest in health equity right now, and I think we’re starting to see some real changes.”

As the Vice President of Quality and Patient Safety for Dignity Health, Negin Behazin is working to make sure that everyone who comes into contact with the health care system receives the best possible care. In her role, she focuses on improving the quality of care and patient safety across all of Dignity Health’s hospitals and clinics.
One of the ways that Dignity Health is working to improve health care for all is by investing in new technology and facilities. For example, Dignity Health has recently opened a new hospital in San Francisco that is entirely focused on providing care for patients with complex chronic conditions. The hospital is equipped with the latest technology and features a team of doctors, nurses, and other health care professionals who are specially trained to care for these patients.
Another way that Dignity Health is working to improve health care for all is by focusing on prevention and early detection. Behazin explains that, “We know that the best way to improve health is to prevent disease in the first place. So, we’re working on initiatives like our diabetes prevention program, which is helping people at risk for diabetes to make lifestyle changes that can prevent the disease.”
In addition to investing in new technology and facilities, and focusing on prevention and early detection, Dignity Health is also working to increase access to care. Behazin explains that, “We’re working to increase access to care in a number of ways. For example, we’re working with community partners to provide transportation to our hospitals and clinics for people who don’t have access to a car. We’re also working to increase the number of primary care providers in our network.”
Ultimately, Dignity Health’s goal is to provide the best possible care for all patients, regardless of their circumstances. Q: What progress have you seen since you started in this role?
A: We’ve made a lot of progress in a short amount of time. When I started in this role, we didn’t have a formalized diversity and inclusion strategy. We’ve since developed a comprehensive strategy that includes goals, action items, and accountability measures.
