eaning the car upholstery yourself is not only a matter of hygiene or neatness, something important: it is also an economic issue. According to IDEA, Institute for Energy Saving and Diversification, dependent on the Ministry of Industry, maintaining a car implies an average cost of €2,000 per year.

A large part of this budget goes to fuel and maintenance, but it is logical to think that if a person personally takes care of cleaning the interior and exterior of his car, he will be able to save a significant amount at the end of the year.

For this reason, we are going to tell you how to carry out the normal maintenance of cleaning the interior of the car or hire some specialist for deep steam cleaning Dubai.

Tips and special stains on car upholstery

Leather and fabric are the most common materials with which the main manufacturers make the upholstery of our cars. Each one has its own strengths and weaknesses and, logically, each one requires its own care and cleaning process.

Keep in mind that if we are talking about a specific stain such as oil stains, chewing gum, returns, etc. we will have to use special products for cleaning the upholstery of the car.

In this article you will find tips to clean car upholstery yourself and get rid of the most common stains.

Important note: Remember, however, that regardless of the stain, the material of your upholstery or the method you are using, it is a good idea to do a test first in an inconspicuous area. If you see that it does not give you problems, you can attack the stained area without fear.

PET HAIR

It is not a stain in itself, but there are few things more unpleasant than a trunk or a back seat full of hair from our dog. To get rid of them you can use a brush like the one you use to remove lint from coats or use this simple tip.

With just some scrubbing gloves and a bowl of water you can say goodbye to hair in just a few minutes. Put on your gloves and scrub the trunk or seat. You will see how the hairs stick to the latex.

When you have finished, and without removing your gloves, put your hands in the bowl of water. In just seconds the hairs will have been left in the water and you will have your gloves – and your upholstery, of course – clean.

CLEAN VOMIT FROM UPHOLSTERY: VINEGAR AND BAKING CARBONATE

  • Traveling with children or pets can have these types of inconveniences. Sometimes even adults get carsick and can’t help but vomit inside the car.
  • The solution, in addition to carrying motion sickness bags to avoid major problems, is easy to carry out.
  • You will need: Scrubbing gloves, a roll of absorbent paper, white vinegar, a cloth and water.
  • With the dish mitts and absorbent paper – a kitchen roll could do – clean the remains until the first layer is removed. It should be done slowly and very carefully not to spread them.
  • When you have removed the least friendly part, you will see that a wet stain remains. With a wet cloth and a bowl with a mixture of white vinegar and 50% water, rub the affected area. Rinse afterwards with a wet cloth only in water.
  • Dab a bit of baking soda on the stain to absorb moisture and eliminate odor. Leave it for at least half an hour and remove it with a vacuum cleaner.

MAGIC TO REMOVE GUM FROM UPHOLSTERY

It may seem a bit exaggerated but if you have ever taken long trips with children in the back seat you know that this can happen.

The biggest mistake we usually make in these cases is trying to remove the gum dry. With an ice cube we will ‘freeze’ the gum and the gum will come out in one piece with just a little scratch without leaving any kind of trace, et voilà!

Deep upholstery cleaning: cloth seats

Although we have not suffered a mishap and we do not have special stains, it is very convenient for its maintenance to carry out a deep cleaning of the car upholstery every 6 months.
It won’t take much time and the result will be optimal without having to spend excessive money on specific products.

HOW TO CLEAN UPHOLSTERY WITH FABRIC SEATS STEP BY STEP

  • The first step is to use a vacuum cleaner, the more powerful the better, to suck up all the dirt that may have accumulated. Take special care in the creased areas where the seat meets the back.
  • Mix in a bowl or bucket water and liquid soap that you use at home to do laundry. In the mixture, 90% will be water and the rest will be soap. When you have it mixed, soak a soft sponge and rub the upholstery.
  • You must do it in a delicate way, without squeezing with excessive force.
  • Remove any remaining soap residue with a semi-damp cloth and vacuum again.
