The gaming industry has seen some major improvements in gaming technology over the past few years. It has opened new doors for game developers and designers to tap into the full potential of modern gaming. Recent world affairs including the pandemic, have played a major role in shaping the future of gaming with remote development becoming the new normal for many studios around the world.

Modern technology has made things both, complicated and simple for game developers. And by making new games more complex, it has also raised players’ expectations to see something different and refreshing in the upcoming titles. In this article, we are going to take a look at how things are changing, specifically for game developers and designers in the recent future of the gaming world.

Better for Beginners

One of the things that many game designers find to be quite relieving is the next-gen technology that is making the whole process a lot easier and less time-consuming, especially for beginners in this field. There are pre-made tools and platforms out there like Crey that offer fully customizable assets they can use for their professional projects or prototyping completely for free. Game creation has become extremely accessible compared to what it was just a few years back and it’s kind of unbelievable.

Cloud-Based Development

Due to the recent pandemic, the majority of businesses including massive game studios shifted to remote work. But since it’s hard to set up individual units in different places or at the homes of the employees, the companies are moving to cloud-based development. This allows game developers, designers, and other essential personnel to collaborate while working from hundreds, even thousands of miles away from each other.

The same is also true for the users or players, many of whom believe that cloud gaming is indeed the future of video games of all types. It allows players to power-hungry stream video games right from their mobile devices, without the need of buying expensive hardware. All it needs is a stable internet connection and that’s it.

AR, VR, and Metaverse

One of the biggest changes that seem to be inevitable in the recent future is Metaverse becoming the new big thing in the gaming world. Many tech giants including Meta (formerly known as Facebook) are working round the clock to turn this idea into a reality, as soon as possible. Game designers realize this and they are already trying their best to get ahead of this using the latest VR and AR technology that immerses gamers like nothing else, making them feel like a part of the virtual world.

All these changes are inspiring game designers to come up with new and better designs which are more tailor-fit according to the needs and requirements of the future. If you are someone who wants to step into the world of game development, I would recommend you learn more about Crey platform and how it works.

We expect to see a lot more changes in the gaming industry in the next five to ten years, that will change gaming as we know it. But ‘till then, I guess we can all go back to booting up Minecraft or Fortnite on our PCs and start streaming away.
